Ingredients and spices that need to be Get to make Bhuna Moong Dal:

  1. 1/2 cup Moong dal
  2. 1 tbsp Mustard oil
  3. 1/4 tsp Cummin seeds
  4. 1 leaf Bay
  5. 1.5 Tsp Ginger paste
  6. 1 Whole dry Chilli
  7. 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  8. 1 pinch Sugar
  9. as per taste Salt
  10. 1 Tomato chopped
  11. Handful Cilantro (optional)
  12. 1/4 tsp Garam masala powder
  13. 1 tbsp Ghee
  14. as needed Hot water

Instructions to make to make Bhuna Moong Dal

  1. Dry roast the Moong Dal till it becomes a little reddish and you can smell the aroma of the roasted Dal, put in a bowl and immediately pour enough cold water and let it soak for At least 30 minutes.
  2. Wash the Dal thoroughly. Heat oil in the kadai or pot. Add whole dry red chilli, Cummin seeds, bay leaf then add the ginger paste and saute it. Add in the roasted and washed Dal and bhunno it and Turmeric powder and mix well. Add chopped tomatoes & salt as per taste and bhunno by adding little water as needed.
  3. Then add enough hot water, boil and cook till the Dal is cooked nicely. As I love cilantro / dhania patta, I added that too, you may skip if you don't like or have it. The Dal may take up to an hour to cook well. Blend it with a traditional wooden blender / Dal Ghotni, check consistency and adjust accordingly, check salt too. Once done, add sugar, garam masala and ghee, mix well, cover and cook for another 5 minutes or so and your Dal is ready is ready to ge served.
