- 1 tsp For tempering - Mustard seeds
- 1 tsp For tempering - Urad dal
- 7-8 For tempering - Curry
- 1 pinch For tempering - Asafoetida
- 3 teaspoon Sesame oil
- 2 raw banana / plantain, peeled and cut into circular pieces

- Grease pain with one teaspoon oil and roast each dal, Daniya seeds, Sesame seeds, grated coconut and red chillies each separately
- Cool the above and blend separately into a coarse powder, and mix together
- Take tamarind pulp in a pan or sauce pan, and add sambar/kolambu powder, salt and let it boil
- In the same pan used for roasting the dals, Grease with oil, add the cut raw banana pieces, and saute till more than half-cooked.
- Add these pieces to the boiling mix, add more water for the pieces to submerge, and simmer it for 5 to 6 minutes till it is cooked a little more, absorbing the flavours
- Add the blend mix powder and jaggery (gud) and let it simmer for 7 to 8 minutes. Add more water and adjust salt as per taste
- Tip: As it cools down, it will get thicker, so add water accordingly.
- Temper with mustard seeds, urad dal, curry leaves, and asafoetida in 1 teaspoon of mustard oil
